Hiring a pest control technician can help save you from pest problems, but knowing what to expect is an entirely different story. Keep these tips in mind as you prepare for pest control services.
NOTE: Inform your technician if anyone in the home has allergies, is pregnant, or is under the age of one. Keep pets outside of treated areas until otherwise informed by your technician.
3 Tasks to Complete Prior to a Pest Control Visit
If you have questions about what you should do before your service begins, feel free to ask our representative or your technician. Keep in mind, anything a member of our team tells you should be taken with precedence over the information presented in this blog.
Move Furniture Away from Affected Areas
Your technician may ask you to move any furniture, appliances, or stored materials away from all interior walls. A good rule of thumb is to leave at least three feet of space between the walls and items in areas that need treatment.
If any surfaces will be drilled or cut into, move fabric materials to avoid plaster and dust from getting in the fibers.
Strip the Bed
When dealing with bed bugs specifically, taking as many precautions as you can will help your technician find the source of the issue. To begin prepping for a service call:
- Remove all bedding (such as pillows, covers, sheets, and dust ruffles) from beds in all bedrooms.
- Wash all bed linens in hot water. Do not replace bedding until otherwise instructed by the technician.
- Store all personal items, including clothes, toys, shoes throughout the home, away from areas to be treated.
Wipe Surfaces
If nothing else, try to wipe down the surfaces of counters and clean any spills. Sweep and vacuum the floors and move pantry food to sealed containers to prevent easy access for pests.
